7 Second Drill
-Set Up: Can use 3 Cones, chairs at 3 spots (Right Wing, Top of Key, Left Wing)
-Start by making your move-score, pop back dribble, stationary ball handling in front of cone for 7 seconds, then drive & finish to rim
-You can choose your ball handling or can do what I am doing

Drill Description:

Live Dribble Moves
-Stationary Live Dribble attacks
-Focusing on Making Moves getting by the defender with a “Live Dribble”
-Cone set up at Right & Left Wing (Cone is used as a Defender)
-On Dribble: Stay Low, Pound Dribble (Use a couple Pound Dribbles then will make move & finish)
-Will Start Behind Right Cone on Right Wing
-Every move we make: Take a Big Step & Big Dribble Out (To get by and clear the defender)
-Every Move is Done 10x’s on Right Side & 10x’s on Left Side

Step Back & Glide Dribble To Shot
-This Drill is an advanced dribble move to create space from our defender to get a shot off
-First Move is a Step Back
-Second Move is a Glide Dribble (Used to get separation from the defender)
-Both of these move require higher skill levels and more strength from legs to get shot off to rim
-Younger players should stay in close about 5 - 8 feet away from hoop
-Use a cone at the Right & Left Wing as a Defender
-Will Do 2 Moves to get Shot Off:     1) Step Back To Shot & 2) Glide Dribble To Shot
Steps for Step Back To Shot:
1- Spin Ball Out & Catch Ball (Square up to Hoop)
2- Rip Ball Low by Feet to your Outside
3- Take 1 Big Step & 1 Big Dribble
4- Dribble is kept live (Don’t Pick Up)
5- Take a Big Hop Step Back To Shot
Steps for Glide Dribble To Shot:
1- Start with a Live Dribble behind cone:  Pound Dribble Inside Hand (Start Squared up to Hoop)
2- Take 1 Big Step & 1 Big Dribble to Middle
3- It is a Glide Dribble to Shot


April 8th Skills Workout

Ball Handling - Octopus Drill

Shooting and Finishing - Two Ball Mikan

Drill Description:

Ball Handling

Octopus Ball Handling
-5 Spots you have to dribble to (Right Corner, Right Wing, Top of Key, Left Wing, Left Corner)
-Start under the hoop & end under hoop after 5th spot
-You can use 5 cones for 5 spots or can dribble at area then Turn and Go
-Do each Drill 3x’s
-Take a break between sets
-If want to add challenge, time yourself to see how fast you can get through each set
1 Ball Right Hand
1 Ball Left Hand
2 Ball Same Time

IF WANT TO ADD A TOUGH CHALLENGE: Do Ball Handling with 5 Finishes

-Take a Big Step into Shot
-Go Left Side then Go to Right Side
-Spin Out - Big Step Inside Pivot - Catch & Shoot

Drill Description:

Ball Handling

Top-Elbow Attack Finishing
-Set up Drill with Cone, Chair, etc at top of Key & Left Elbow then will switch to Right Elbow
-Start a little bit away from top cone to make move
-Dribble to top cone (Make Move), Dribble to Left Cone (Make Move) & Drive to Rim
-Go Game Speed & Attack the Rim
-2 Finishes for Each Move on Each Side
-Do Move 2x’s on one side than the other side (Then move down the order of moves)
Cone: Top of Key & Left Elbow then Switch to other Side - Right Elbow
1-Dribble at Top of Cone, Crossover, Dribble Elbow, Crossover & Finish

Shooting & Finishing


Evans Shooting
-Drill requires you to shoot from 5 spots (Right Corner, Right Wing, Top, Left Wing, Left Corner)
-You will stay at the same spot until you miss 2 in a row
-Once you miss 2 in a row, you move to the next spot
-Your goal is to stay at a spot as long as you can
-You are allowed to miss 1 shot, just not 2 in a row
-Competitive Drill: You are adding your makes (Every Make is a point)
-See how many points you can make once you total your makes and can’t go anymore at 5th Spot
-Pick your range to shoot from: 15ft, 3pt Line
-Spin Ball Out - Step into Pass & Shoot
-Drill makes you lock in mentally because you know there is pressure, if you miss a shot, you know you have to make the 2nd shot or you have to move to next spot
-Whatever score you get, you are trying to beat that score next round.
-Challenge is to do 3 Rounds and see if you can beat your top score each Round (Can do more if want)

 

 

 


April 2nd Skills Workout

Ball Handling - Ball Screen Dribbles

Shooting and Finishing - St. Norbert Shooting

Drill Description:

Ball Handling

Ball Screen Dribbles
-Focuses on how to utilize ball screens with dribbling
-Important to attack drive straight to rim
-3 Techniques:
1-Use Ball Screens (Defender No Hedge Help) Straight to Rim & Finish
2-Use Ball Screens (Defender Flat Hedge), Hesitate then Attack Straight to Rim & Finish
3-Use Ball Screens (Defender Comes out too far), Split Ball Screen Straight to Rim & Finish
SET UP:
Start Back Behind Right Wing: Dribble down to the level of the ball screen (Can set out chair as ball screen-top of key)
-Crossover, dribble at ball screen
-Do Each Move at least 5x’s Right & then 5x’s Left Side (Do More to get footwork down if can)
1-Use Ball Screen: Drive Straight to RIm & Finish
-Turn off ball screen quick & hard
2-Use Ball Screen: Hesitate, Attack Straight to Rim
3-Use Ball Screen: Split Ball Screen Straight to Rim
-Bring in 2 Chairs (as hard hedge) Chair Top of Key & Chair Higher towards Left Wing
-Normal set up, You will crossover & split defender & finish on Right Side

St. Norbert Shooting
-Challenge Shooting Drill
-If you are by yourself (No Rebounder), you have 6 Minutes to get through the Shooting Drill for 3 Different Rounds
-If you have someone with you (Rebounder), you have 4 Minutes to get through the Shooting Drill for 3 Different Rounds
-5 Spots (Right Corner, Right Wing, Top, Left Wing, Left Corner)
-You pick range of shooting (15ft, 3pt, etc.)
-Have to make Challenge in each Spot to move on to next Spot
-Once done with challenge at all 5 Spots, move on to 2nd Round then 3rd Round (Timer Keeps Going)
Timed Game: Start & Hit Stop when Finished to see your time at End of 3 Rounds
-Spin, Step into Pass, Catch & Shoot at every spot
1st Round:    All 5 Spots    (Make 3 from each Spot)           **Does Not have to be in a Row**
2nd Round:   All 5 Spots  (Make 2 in Row from each Spot)

Drill Description:

Moves on the Move Combo Series (3 Cones-3 Moves)
-Can use 3 cones, chairs, or imagine something in 3 spots & make 3 moves to finish
-Do all Right side first (1-5 Moves), then Left Side (1-5 Moves)
-When doing left side, need to move middle cone to left side
-Will do each move (1--5) 2x’s
-1st Finish: 1 Foot Finish & 2nd Finish 2 Foot Finish
-Do all Right side first then Left Side
1- Crossover, Crossover, Crossover
2- Crossover, Between the Legs, Crossover
3- Crossover, Behind the Back, Crossover

-Baseline, Laneline, FT Line, Laneline, Baseline Pattern
-Keep Hips Down, Keep Ball Below Knees, Pound Ball on Dribble
-1 Basketball then 2 Basketballs
-Start Baseline, Go to Laneline (Make Move), Go to the FT Line (Make Move), Go to Elbow FT Line into Laneline (Make Move), Go to Baseline (Make Move), and Finish Through
-Every set is down & back (Will Do Each Move 3 Sets)
1st Round:     Slow, Pound Dribble, Strong Moves on Change of Direction (3 Sets Each Drill)

3rd Shot:   Spin-Catch to yourself & Sweep (Rip) & Go Lay-up= 1pt
-You can get a total of 6pts from each spot if you make all your shots

-When change direction-open up-low cross-quick change on speed dribble Diagonal
(Eyes Up, Bend at the Knees & not hips, on dribble-keep ball below waist, push ball out in front of
you, go as quick as you can)
Added Challenge: Time yourself to see how fast you can get through one set

(Eyes Up, Bend at the Knees & not hips, on dribble-keep ball below waist, push ball out in front of
you, go as quick as you can, end with a jump stop-turn & pivot

-Back starts to the Rim, Spin Ball Out, Step Inside Foot & Square Up to Rim

1- Left Elbow: Spin Out-Catch-Square Up-Hard Sweep “Rip Left” into your Lay-up
2- Right Elbow: Spin Out-Catch-Square Up-Hard Sweep “Rip Right” into your Lay-up
**Do that 5 - 10 Times on Each Side**
Shot Fake & Go
3- Left Elbow:  Spin Out-Catch-Square Up-Shot Fake-Go Left into your Lay-up
-Good Shot Fake (Show Ball, Knees Bent, Hips Stay Down)
4- Right Elbow: Spin Out-Catch-Square Up-Shot Fake-Go Right into your Lay-up
**Do that 5 - 10 Times on Each Side**
Rock & Go
5- Left Elbow: Spin Out-Catch-Square Up-Rock & Go (Jab) Right into your Lay-up

(Eyes Up, Bend at the Knees & not hips, on dribble-keep ball below knees, go quick as you can)
Added Challenge if Want: Time yourself to see how fast you can get through the cycle (1-7)
1.  Two ball same dribble
2.  Two ball alternate dribble
3.  Two ball Push-Pull
4.  Two ball Fake Crossover
5.  Two ball Crossover
6.  Two ball Right Hand Low - Left Hand High
7.  Two ball Left Hand Low - Right Hand High

Shooting:
Redbird Shooting Drill
-Start at Right Wing (Will Rebound for yourself)
-Going Back & Forth Stepping Right Inside Foot & Left Inside Foot
-Can pick a spot to shoot from 10ft, 12ft, 15ft, 3pt
-Need to Pick a number that you need to make out of 10 before you can advance
-Example: Pick out 5 out of 10 (If you get to your goal, can move on, if not-repeat)
-Spin out to yourself, step inside foot Right-Left catch & shoot then Rebound
-Get Ball: Spin out to yourself, step inside foot opposite direction Left-Right catch & shoot
-In order to Advance: Remember need to make at least your goal to move to the next spot
